Brimming with ocean vistas, jungle-like trails, and spectacular mountain hikes, there’s plenty of awe-inspiring walks to choose from in and around Coolum. Once you have indulged your intrepid spirit, there’s loads of tasty places to pick-up a much-deserved snack too.

Here are some of the best walks in and around Coolum and where to eat afterwards.

1) Point Arkwright Trail + Yum Gelato

Shop 7, 1776-1778 David Low Way, Coolum Beach

The Point Arkwright Headland Park is one of Coolum’s local gems. An idyllic coastal lookout perfect for throwing out a picnic rug and soaking up the ocean views. You may even spot whales, dolphins, or a turtle. Follow the Point Arkwright Trail through approximately one kilometre of lush bushland to discover secluded bays and stunning vistas. At the end of the bushland trail, you can follow the coastal path even further into Coolum. Meander past the rolling surf at First Bay, take a scenic snap at Point Perry, and continue into town where you will find Yum Gelato. Owned by local couple Mandy and Trevor, Yum Gelato dishes out the yummiest Acai bowls, smoothies, and freshly squeezed juices for a mid-walk refresher.

2) Mount Coolum + Daily Dose

8/2 Suncoast Beach Dr, Mount Coolum

For a more challenging walk that certainly pays dividends, Mount Coolum is a must. Holding significant cultural and environmental importance to the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara people, Mount Coolum oozes abundant flora and fauna, and breathtaking views in every direction. The climb will take approximately 40 minutes to the summit and follows a formalised path with steep stairs in some sections. At the top of the mountain, you can sit and relax with sweeping panoramic views right along the coastline and into the distant hinterland. For a special treat, you can’t go past a sunrise hike followed by a hearty breakfast and lip-smacking coffee at nearby Daily Dose.

3) Marcoola-Yaroomba Coastal Path + Messy Hen

12a Merchants Parade, Marcoola QLD 4564

This 1.5-kilometre coastal pathway stretches from Tanah Street East at Yaroomba to the Marcoola Esplanade. It’s a lovely wide concrete path making it ideal for the whole family to walk, scoot, or ride. Tucked behind the sand dunes and encompassed in cool coastal vegetation, there’s plenty of opportunities to spot resident bush turkey’s and other local wildlife. Be sure to detour at the Mount Coolum Boardwalk for the money shot of the mountain before continuing on to Merchants Parade, Marcoola (Beach Access 98). Here you will find a lovely open park with children’s playground, barbeque areas, and toilets. It’s also where you will find the delectable little café, Messy Hen. Offering killer coffee, all-day brunch, burgers, and other hearty meals. They serve beer, wine, and cocktails too.

4) Emu Mountain + The Coolum Social

7 8/26 Birtwill St, Coolum Beach

If you’re not quite ready for Mount Coolum but keen for some epic panoramic views, then Emu Mountain may be more your caper. While there’s no formalised path (or emus for that matter), it is still a relatively easy walk to the summit. After a brisk 45-minute round trip through pretty wildflowers and coastal landscapes you’ll be set for a refresco at the super cute The Coolum Social.

4) Mount Ninderry + Fairhill Courtyard Café Bar Restaurant

114 Fairhill Rd, Ninderry

Just 20 minutes west of Coolum, nestled amid scenic farmland and lush greenery, lies the majestic Mount Ninderry. This trail offers a genuine bushwalking adventure that's perfect for the whole family—dogs included! Access the trail from Eucalyptus Crescent via Ninderry Road. While there are no formal paths and some sections involve steep, rocky ascents, the challenge is well worth it. To the east, gaze over expansive cane fields towards Mount Coolum and catch glimpses of the ocean. To the west, enjoy sweeping vistas of Yandina township and the surrounding hinterland. With fewer crowds than Mount Coolum, it’s a serene escape into nature. Continue your immersion with lunch at Fairhill Courtyard Café Bar Restaurant.
